The Course (2) - BA

The practical work provides a strong core in a wide range of dance styles, singing and drama, supplemented by options that enable students to pursue their own interests.

Year One starts with a general foundation course that ranges from classical ballet to singing, from contemporary dance to drama, from stage fighting to a wide variety of jazz styles.

Year Two contains a smaller range of core subjects balanced by an increasing number of options; for instance classical ballet repertoire, Cunningham based technique, dance for music theatre and specialist acting skills. In the first two years there is also the possibility of a specialist route for those students who wish to pursue a career in classical ballet. Selection for this route is by audition at the recommendation of the classical ballet staff, particularly the director of the third year Classical Ballet Professional Option.

Year Three students choose between classical ballet, contemporary dance, jazz theatre dance or music theatre. In the final semester this leads to a tour of professional theatres with one of our four performing companies - Images of Dance (Classical Ballet), Intoto Dance (Contemporary Dance), The Jazz Dance Company (Jazz Theatre Dance), or Seedtime (Music Theatre). This is the culmination of the training at the London Studio Centre.
