PROFESSIONAL PROSPECTS
The London Studio Centre recognises the importance of preparing students for the world of work, which in the professional theatre is both a competitive and highly demanding environment. In response to this, the Studio has developed a number of strategies in order to launch students on successful performing careers.
L.S.C. MANAGEMENT
On a non-commission basis L.S.C. Management assists both past and present students in securing professional employment. The agency was established to liaise with the entertainment industry and filter professional opportunities that are continuously being offered to students at the Studio. The esteem in which the Studio is held ensures that many production companies contact us when there are contracts available.
However, whilst students are encouraged to gain professional experience during their studies at the Studio, only short term contracts may be considered in order to prevent any undue disruption to training or a conflict of interest arising.
Each student is required to compile a C.V complete with photographs. These are regularly updated, so that if professional opportunities are available students are able to respond quickly to any enquiries from casting directors or L.S.C. Management.
AUDITIONS
Students are coached and supported for a wide range of auditions, and mock auditions are held regularly throughout the final year.
This is designed to alert the students to, and prepare them for the pressures of this highly competitive process. The London Studio Centre's wide range of contacts within the profession means that this process can be arranged in collaboration with directors, choreographers and musical directors actively scouting for talented performers.
For graduating students auditions can be arranged with the leading classical ballet and contemporary companies, both in the U.K. and abroad.
BRITISH ACTORS' EQUITY
British Actors' Equity is the main performing arts union, and on the successful completion of the
Theatre Dance Course at the London Studio Centre, UK and EU students are eligible to become full
members with British Actors' Equity. British Actors' Equity is the main union for the
performing arts profession, open to members of EU states. LSC students are eligible to join as
'student members' of Equity for a fee of £15 a year, which includes one year's subscription and
reservation of the name they wish to use in the profession if that name has not
already been registered. On graduation LSC students are eligible to become fully registered
with the British Actors' Equity and any previous payment to Equity will be deducted from their
initial subscription. Details are available from the office. AGENTS The London Studio Centre maintains an excellent working relationship
with many agents and personal managements. They are regular visitors to the Studio and come to all
the performances. This enables a great many students to be taken on to agents' books, often prior to
their graduation.
PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
In addition to performing careers, students successfully completing the degree programme may pursue post-graduate studies in dance education, administration or management, or use their qualification to gain graduate entrance to one of these professions.
